Friday 30th November, 2018-The Antigua/ Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) says discussions are ongoing to re-locate the Barbuda Registration Unit to the sister isle, ahead of preparations for the Barbuda Council Elections, scheduled to take place in March 2019.
In a statement, ABEC detailed that on Thursday, members of the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission and Supervisor of Elections, Lorna Simon, met with the Parliamentary Representative for Barbuda, the Hon. Trevor Walker, to discuss existing possibilities of a place to house the unit on the sister isle.
The Barbuda Registration Unit has been operating at the Central Registration Unit, located in the former Peace Corps Building on Factory Road, since the passage of Hurricane Irma which devastated the sister isle in September 2017.
ABEC says it is informing Barbudans that registration is ongoing at the Central Registration Unit.
The deadline for new registrants to register in order to be eligible to vote in the March 2019 Barbuda Council Elections is January 31st 2019.
