Friday 4th January, 2019-Antigua and Barbuda is one step closer to transitioning to renewable energy with the arrival of wind turbine equipment.
The blades for the turbines were cleared today from the Antigua Port Authority. Once operational, the equipment will convert wind energy into electrical energy.
Environment Minister the Hon. Molwyn Joseph witnessed the landing of the turbine blades and describes it as a “significant development.”
The loan agreement US $ 15 million for the acquisition of the turbines was signed in Abu Dhabi in 2016.
Minister Joseph says an area has been identified where the turbines will be installed.
The environment minister has expressed gratitude to the government for its vision and foresight and also to the Environment Division, for the expertise they have developed to access funding and establish the process for contracts to be signed.
