Thursday 7th February, 2019-A funeral service will be held next week for Dame Yvonne Maginley who passed away on 27th January, 2019.
The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has accorded the former Governor General’s Deputy an official funeral on Tuesday 12th February, 2019, at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.
Confirmation came from Ambassador Lionel ‘Max’ Hurst, Chief of Staff in the Office of the Prime Minister.
The funeral is expected to begin at noon next Tuesday and will include several tributes and a eulogy. There will also be messages of condolence from those who worked closely with Dame Yvonne Maginley. One such message will come from former Prime Minister, Sir Lester Bird, who appointed Dame Yvonne to several key positions within the government service. It will be printed in the funeral program.
The former Director General of Tourism received numerous awards nationally and regionally, for her work in tourism, including the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) lifetime achievement award in 2010. In 2003, she was the recipient of the nation’s highest female national honour.
She was also a long time president of the oldest choir in the country, Antigua Community Players.
