Wednesday 27th March, 2019-The sickout at Antigua State College continued today among full time lecturers who are expressing concerns over unsuitable working conditions at the learning institution.

Only part-time lecturers were reportedly on duty, as the industrial action moved into day two.

According to reports, classes for students in the engineering department of the college are canceled for the remainder of the week, while classes for other departments were convened today, but they are not operating on a regular schedule.

This latest action by members of staff arose after the contents from an assessment conducted at ASC by the Central Board of Health were revealed. The findings outlined in the document that was completed in December, 2018 and submitted to the school’s management in January, 2019 point to unsatisfactory conditions at the Golden Grove Campus, on the compound, in the classrooms and other buildings.

It is unclear at this stage if the full-time lecturers will return to work this week. Some have stated they will not be returning until the authorities begin rectifying the many issues plaguing Antigua State College.

The lecturers have joined administrative and ancillary staff who staged protest action last week, highlighting the same issues and calling for improvements in their working conditions.
