Tuesday 9th April, 2019-There was a water canon salute today for the late pilot Conrad Jules Aska whose body returned to Antigua from the United States for burial.

A water canon salute in these parts is a tradition reserved for retiring pilots, pilots who have passed away and the commencement of a new service to a particular destination by an airline.

First Officer Aska was killed along with Pilot Sean Archuleta and Captain Ricky Blakely when their Boeing 767 Atlas Air Cargo Plane crashed in Texas on 23rd February.

The three men were operating the flight for Amazon Prime Air, when it reportedly plunged more than 3,000 ft in 30 seconds. Atlas Air said it was flying flight 3591 for Amazon. The jumbo jet had departed from Miami and was likely moments from landing at Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston when witnesses said it crashed nose first into the bay.

A wide bodied aircraft bearing the body of the Antiguan pilot landed this morning at V.C Bird International Airport.

Family members, relatives and friends of First Officer Conrad Aska will gather for his funeral on Thursday, 11th April, 2019 at St. James’s Anglican Church in Cedar Grove.
