Monday 29th April, 2019-The top executive of ailing regional airline LIAT says the carrier will continue to connect travellers across the region.
The reassurance comes from Chief Executive Officer, Julie Reifer-Jones, who confirmed in a statement that despite the challenges facing the Antigua based airline; it continues operating its daily flight schedule.
The CEO noted that the airline is committed to connecting the region as it has done in the past. She said they plan to continue doing so and will also be looking ahead to summer.
The airline is experiencing major financial challenges that are threatening its survival. Despite an appeal from shareholding governments for other countries to contribute, there hasn’t been much progress. However, the airline’s officials are optimistic they will make it through the turbulent period they are experiencing.
Julie Reifer Jones also noted that the company continues to update its restructuring plan so that LIAT can evolve into a more efficient and sustainable company serving the region.
The company’s Board of Directors as well as Shareholders will meet in back to back meetings this week in here in Antigua to review the proposed measures for taking the airline forward.
LIAT operates 491 flights weekly across its network of 15 destinations and is viewed as a major asset to air travel in the region.
