Monday 3rd June, 2019-There are no immediate plans by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank to have the image of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II removed from the E.C Banknotes.
The question was asked of ECCB Governor, Timothy Antoine last week, as he fielded questions from media practitioners during the launch of the EC $ 50 Polymer banknote.
In his response as to whether the queen’s profile should be on a symbol of regional accomplishment, Governor Antoine stated such a decision will be a matter for the people of the currency union.
The ECCB governor opined that until it is decided otherwise, Her Majesty’s image will remain on the legal tenders. He shared that any adjustments to the Queen Elizabeth II’s portrait will require a process to be undertaken.
