Wednesday 22nd May, 2019-The Minister with responsibility for telecommunications says government has no fear in using the technologies of Huawei even as the United States government last week declared a national emergency to protect US computer networks from “foreign adversaries”.
The US president’s executive order effectively bars US companies from using foreign telecoms believed to pose national security risks, a direct hit to the Chinese firm Huawei.
In an invited comment, the Hon. Melford Nicholas declared he has no issue with Huawei and explained there’s a criteria that must be met by technology providers, which the government engages and thus far, there are no concerns.
According to the BBC, several countries, led by the US, have raised concerns in recent months that Huawei products could be used by China for surveillance, allegations the company has vehemently denied.
But Minister Nicholas does not foresee Antigua and Barbuda being affected by the position taken by the US and major countries as it relates to Huawei.
