Wednesday 14th August, 2019-The President of the Antigua and Barbuda Union of Teachers (A&BUT) has been elected to serve as President of the Caribbean Union of Teachers.
Ashworth Azille takes control of the regional body from Julian Monrose.
Azille’s executive officers are:
1st VP – Garth Anderson (JTA)
2nd VP – Wendy Bynoe (SVGTU)
3rd VP – Shannon James (BUT, Bermuda)
Secretary General – Don Howell ( SLTU)
Deputy Secretary General – Vern Charles (SLTU)
Trustees – Richmark Cave (BUT, Barbados) and Mark Lyte (GTU)
The election took place during the CUT’s 39th Biennial Conference, which was held in St. Vincent and the Grenadines last week.
Mr. Azille who serves as Principal at Clare Hall Secondary School expressed appreciation to the A&BUT for nominating him and supporting his candidacy. He has pledged that as president of the Caribbean Union of Teachers, they will continue to play a leading role in helping to influence some of the decision making process relating to education within the region.
He spoke of matters the union will seek to address within the next two years, which includes the thorny issue of compensation for teachers that mark School Based Assessments (SBAs).
